ABOUT US

There are 6 departments in the Department of Chemistry: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. A total of 12 full-time faculty members work in these departments, including 3 professors, 4 associate professors and 5 assistant professors. Department faculty members receive support from the university and TÜBİTAK for their scientific research projects. Our department also accepts international postdoctoral researchers with the support of TÜBİTAK. In the Chemistry department, undergraduate and graduate students can benefit from ERASMUS, FARABI and MEVLANA student exchange programs.

The most important goal of the Chemistry Department is to train students as chemists. For this purpose, students are trained to conduct research and development in chemistry and related industries. Chemists are the people an industrialized country needs most. Working areas are quite wide. Chemists can work in three basic departments in the industry: quality control, production and research and development (R&D). Chemists work in petroleum industries, in factories producing cleaning agents such as soap and detergent, in factories producing polymers, plastics and chemicals, in pharmaceutical factories, in the paint industry, in food production factories, in iron and steel factories, in factories producing cellulose and paper, in glass, ceramics and other industries. They can find jobs in the production and control departments of cement factories, and in business, R&D and quality control laboratories in fields such as the textile and clothing industry. They can also work in public and private clinical diagnostic laboratories, molecular biology laboratories and scientific research centers and hospital laboratories. In addition, chemists can work at senior levels in research laboratories by completing master's and doctoral studies, as well as pursue an academic career at universities.

The Department of Chemistry organizes various events throughout the year, such as inviting speakers to the campus, visiting different universities and industrial organizations, and organizing some social trips.
